Accelerating Regenerative Medicine in California for the World
The California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) is the first-ever taxpayer-funded agency in the US and one of the world’s largest institutes of its kind dedicated to accelerating the development of innovative cell and gene therapies.
CIRM is dedicated to fulfilling its mission by funding groundbreaking research and driving the development of treatments for a diverse array of diseases.
But CIRM’s work extends beyond laboratories and clinics. The Agency has launched education and training programs to inspire the next generation of scientists, established infrastructure to provide researchers with the tools for success, and championed patient access and community outreach programs.
Supported by the People of California
Twenty years ago, 59 percent of Californian voters approved Proposition 71 — the California Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative — and voted again to approve Proposition 14 in 2020.
Over this time, CIRM has been instrumental in accelerating the development of groundbreaking therapies while fostering California’s biotech ecosystem. This includes world-class hospitals and clinics, cutting-edge manufacturing facilities, and vital collaborations that speed up the path from scientific discovery to patient care.
By funding the best regenerative medicine in the world, CIRM continues to drive this progress in treating diseases like cancer, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, genetic disorders, and more.
But it’s not just about finding new treatments— it’s about revolutionizing science and healthcare delivery.
As CIRM embarks on its third decade, it will continue to partner with scientists, patient advocates, industry leaders, and all other stakeholders to deliver on our mission.
