MEDIA ADVISORY FIRST SCIENTIFIC MEETING FOR CALIFORNIA’S STEM CELL AGENCY TO IDENTIFY PRIORITIES FOR FUTURE RESEARCH
EMERYVILLE, CA – On Saturday and Sunday (10/1/05-10/2/05), the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) will hold its first scientific meeting, “Stem Cell Research: Charting New Directions for California,” in San Francisco.
WHO: Leading stem cell researchers from around the world, scientific experts, patient advocates, and members of the public
WHAT: “Stem Cell Research: Charting New Directions for California” will identify scientific opportunities and barriers to progress in stem cell research. Each session is asked to make specific recommendations on the most important actions that CIRM can take to accelerate the research toward treatments and therapies.
The meeting will feature six scientific sessions with presentations by stem cell researchers and clinicians from the United States as well as Australia, Canada, Israel, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The sessions will cover fundamental and applied aspects of stem cell research that range from basic stem cell biology to prospects for therapeutic applications and discoveries using specialized cells derived from stem cells.
To facilitate scientific discussions, the meeting is limited to 200 pre-registered attendees. However, CIRM will webcast the proceedings from the following websites:
CIRM will publish a summary available for the public that will capture the main ideas expressed during the talks and the resulting recommendations.
