The California Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing Network
Overcoming bottlenecks to innovative medicines and an inclusive workforce
The California Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing Network was established by CIRM to expand the manufacturing capabilities necessary to bring stem cell and gene therapies from foundational research through to commercialization, safely and at therapeutic scale.
The statewide network is designed to overcome manufacturing bottlenecks that have delayed or stalled development and approval of therapies.
CIRM is funding various California non-profit GMP manufacturing facilities as part of the first phase to establish the Network:
- Stanford University
- University of California, Los Angeles
- Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope
- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
- University of California, San Francisco
- University of California, San Diego
- University of California, Irvine
- University of Southern California
- University of California, Davis
Each of these facilities will support accelerating and de-risking the path to commercialization for cell and gene therapies, advancing industry standards and quality by design, and building a diverse and highly skilled manufacturing workforce in California.
The formation of the manufacturing network will help California academic GMP manufacturing facilities raise the quality and competency of cell and gene therapy manufacturing across the state and will provide manufacturing career training opportunities for Californians.
Phase two of the awards will fund collaborative partnerships that will scale efforts from the first phase across the network.
