Year 3 NCE

The current reporting period provided the opportunity to reach the final milestone of the project, in which our collaborators at UC-Irvine joined our efforts to provide samples for development into characterized iPSC lines. The samples, derived from well-phenotyped elderly volunteers with and without cognitive impairment, will allow us to further study the cellular effects of age-related cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease by using human tissue in a dish. Further, the work promises to advance critical proof of concept for new therapeutics that need to be advanced into human studies. Cellular cultures of iPSC lines allow demonstration of target engagement and evaluation of a drug’s effect on key molecular pathways involved in the disease. Thus, the efforts of the last reporting period were critical to advance the achievement of the projects proposed aims.
