Year 1

We were able to develop a pig model of enteric neuromuscular dysfunction during the first year of this project. A portion of the large intestine was made neuron-less with a chemical injection method. We were able to make skin-derived precursor cells from pig skin. These cells expressed markers of precursor cells, and they are able to form neurons in the laboratory. We will transplant these cells into the pig colon in the coming year.
