Year 6

The Laboratory for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering supports stem cell research at the University of California, Santa Barbara in three major areas: Molecular Mechanisms/Basic Science, Translational Bioengineering, and Regenerative Medicine. Studies in the areas of Molecular Mechanisms/Basic Science and Translational Bioengineering are being actively pursued by UCSB researchers and their collaborators worldwide. The laboratory serves as a hub of stem cell research activity on campus, and also serves as a core facility for other institutions and industry scientists on the central coast of California. During the past year, the facility has extended its participation in the multiple CIRM-funded research and training programs on campus and contributed to significant research progress in Regenerative Medicine.
